Prototype Centre
Our leading-edge facilities and high precision tools allow error-free prototypes to be built with extremely short lead times. The prototype centre is made up of the following:
-
Clay Modelling
Essentially, 3D scale models that allow designers and engineers to conduct feasibility studies on preliminary designs.
-
Rapid Prototyping
Extremely fast production of prototype samples that makes things possible during the development timing.
-
Prototype Shop
Full functioning prototypes are developed, as per vehicle design specifications. This enables testing to be carried out.
Concept Car 1:3 Scale Model
Shown here, is a 1:3 scale model of a concept car finished, painted and detailed. The scale model creates an exact replica of what the selected car looks like from every angle. This aids us in illustrating what the actual car will turn out to be, before its production.
Clay Modelling Process
For greater efficiency, the clay modelling process assists designers to process 3-dimensional information about car designs in a shorter period of time.
White foam is firstly shaped around, which the raw clay will be machine-layered to build up the correct thickness of material. Meticulous handcrafting is the required, in shaping and detailing every surface of the model to match the designers and stylists' concepts.
Rapid Prototyping Manufacturing
Shown here are our prototyping facilities that offer Stereo Lithography Apparatus (SLA), Laminated Object Manufacturing, and Rapid Mould Making for plastic or alloy parts. This service has become a revenue generator in its own right, and works with many external clients on various types of projects.
"Not only did the guys at the PROTON Rapid Prototyping and Manufacturing Centre save me a great deal of time I couldn't spare in the first place, they got the job done at a lower cost."
Kenny Roberts – Team Owner, Team Roberts, on the award-winning Proton KR V5 four-stroke motorcycle, designed prototyped and produced in record time for Team Proton KR in the World Motorcycle Rally Championships.
